Chandigarh/Sangrur, January 11, 2026 – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab unit has taken strict disciplinary action against the leadership of the Longowal Municipal Council. On Sunday, the party officially suspended the Council President, Parminder Kaur Brar, from its primary membership with immediate effect.
The Official Statement According to the disciplinary notice issued by the party, it had come to the leadership’s notice that Brar was involved in activities detrimental to the party’s interests. Along with Parminder Kaur Brar, the party has also suspended Kamal Brar and Karam Singh Brar for their alleged involvement in anti-party activities. The notice states, “The Party hereby suspends you from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party with immediate effect.”
Shifting Political Sands The suspension follows reports that Parminder Kaur Brar, along with her supporters and family members, has joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Reports indicate that SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal visited the residence of a founding AAP member in Longowal to officially welcome Brar into the Akali fold. This development is seen as a significant blow to AAP’s stronghold in the Longowal region of Sangrur.
