MOHALI — Concerns over the health of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have resurfaced after he was re-admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali late Monday evening. The development comes as a surprise, given that the Chief Minister had been discharged from the same facility earlier in the day.
According to sources within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and hospital insiders, Mann was brought back to the medical facility after he complained of severe exhaustion and fatigue.
A Brief Discharge for Public Duty Mann had initially been admitted to Fortis Hospital on Sunday for a routine check-up after feeling unwell. At the time, hospital authorities stated that his condition was stable and all vital parameters were within normal limits. However, the Chief Minister was keen to fulfill his public commitments.
On Monday morning, Mann took a discharge against the advice of complete rest to attend a significant state-level event. He traveled straight to the Killi Chahlan village near Moga to participate in the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) rally. The event was a high-profile gathering attended by AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and several state cabinet ministers.
Before leaving for the rally, Mann had posted on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his enthusiasm: “A massive rally is being held today by the Aam Aadmi Party at Killi Chahlan village near Moga… See you there, friends.”
Return to Hospital Witnesses at the Moga rally noted that the Chief Minister delivered his address but appeared visibly drained. Immediately after the event concluded, instead of returning to his official residence, his convoy headed back to Mohali.
Sources indicate that the physical strain of the travel and the public address exacerbated his condition. Upon his return to Fortis, a team of doctors immediately attended to him. While an official medical bulletin is awaited, initial reports suggest that dehydration and extreme fatigue are the primary causes for his re-admission.
This is the second time in two days that the Chief Minister has required medical attention. Earlier, Mann had also visited the Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev Shiv Mandir in Sangrur’s Dhuri on the occasion of Mahashivratri with Arvind Kejriwal before his health initially dipped on Sunday.
Supporters and party workers have gathered outside the hospital, praying for his speedy recovery.
