New Delhi | In a chilling incident that has left the residents of northwest Delhi in deep shock, a 30-year-old woman allegedly strangled her infant nephew to death in a public park. The horrific crime took place in the Mukherji Nagar area on Friday afternoon, transforming what was supposed to be a playful outing into a nightmare for the family.
According to Delhi Police officials, the victim, a 21-month-old toddler, was originally a resident of Old Seelampur. He had recently traveled with his mother to visit his grandparents at their maternal home in Mukherji Nagar. On Friday afternoon, around 1:30 PM, the child’s maternal aunt took him to a nearby neighborhood park to play. It was there that she allegedly attacked the helpless child, choking him until he lost consciousness.
The gruesome discovery was made by locals who heard a commotion. Rahul, a gardener working in the vicinity, recounted the harrowing moments to reporters. “It was just after lunchtime. We were resting for a bit when we suddenly heard shouting coming from the park,” he explained. “When we rushed over to see what was happening, we found the lady sitting there, holding the child in her lap. As I got closer, I realized the boy wasn’t moving. He was already dead.”
A quick-thinking local resident immediately grabbed the child and rushed him to a nearby private hospital in a desperate bid to save his life. Tragically, the medical staff pronounced the toddler dead on arrival.
The child’s maternal uncle, devastated by the turn of events, immediately alerted the local police. When authorities arrived at the crime scene, they found the accused woman lying unconscious on the ground near where the incident occurred. A disturbing video clip from the moments right after the incident, showing the woman sitting numbly with the lifeless child, has reportedly surfaced during the investigation.
The accused, who remains unmarried, was immediately transported by the police to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for medical examination and necessary treatment. Preliminary inquiries by the investigating officers suggest that the woman has been suffering from severe depression, which may have triggered the fatal breakdown.
The police have registered a case and initiated strict legal action. A senior investigating officer stated that while the primary facts are clear, a detailed probe is currently underway to definitively ascertain the exact sequence of events and the underlying motive behind the aunt’s shocking actions.
