Mandi, Himachal Pradesh: Tensions flared in Mandi as Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut chaired a Disha Committee meeting inside the DRDA auditorium, while just meters away, Youth Congress workers staged a sharp protest against her.
Chanting slogans like “Go Back Kangana” and “Badtameez Sansad,” the demonstrators expressed outrage over Kangana’s recent remarks referring to the Congress as “the forgotten offspring of the British.” Holding black flags, the Youth Congress workers demanded respectful conduct from elected leaders, stating that Himachal Pradesh is known for its civil political discourse.
District Youth Congress President from Sundernagar, Nikhil Thakur, accused the MP of ignoring her constituency during natural disasters and now using Himachal as a summer vacation spot. “She only returns to spread venom and insult political opponents. Even her own party is distancing itself from her rhetoric,” he said.
Police deployed additional personnel at the protest site to ensure peace. Despite the high tension, the Youth Congress protest remained non-violent.
Kangana, meanwhile, continued the Disha Committee meeting as scheduled, ignoring the protest. The clash highlights growing friction ahead of upcoming elections, with Kangana’s words stirring political storm clouds once again in her home state.
