Shimla, March 10 — A disruption in LPG transportation has triggered a gas supply crisis across several parts of Himachal Pradesh, forcing gas agencies to temporarily halt the refilling of commercial LPG cylinders in multiple districts. The situation has raised concerns among restaurants, hotels and small businesses that depend heavily on commercial gas supplies.
Officials said the crisis emerged after the movement of LPG cylinders from bottling plants slowed due to logistical challenges affecting transportation. As supplies began to shrink at distribution centres, gas agencies were compelled to suspend the refilling of commercial cylinders to manage the limited stock.
Authorities confirmed that the shortage has been reported in several districts across the state, including major urban and tourist areas where the demand for commercial cylinders remains high.
Hospitality and Small Businesses Affected
The halt in refilling services has created immediate challenges for restaurants, roadside eateries, hotels and catering services across Himachal Pradesh. Many establishments rely entirely on commercial LPG cylinders for daily kitchen operations.
Business owners said they are currently using their remaining gas stocks cautiously while waiting for fresh supplies to arrive. Some hotel operators warned that prolonged delays in LPG availability could disrupt hospitality services, particularly during the tourist season.
Industry representatives noted that uninterrupted LPG supply is essential for food businesses and tourism-related services across the state.
Domestic LPG Supply Given Priority
Gas distributors stated that domestic LPG cylinders for household use are being prioritised during the current shortage. Agencies said the temporary halt in commercial cylinder refilling is intended to ensure that residential consumers do not face disruptions.
Officials also advised domestic users not to engage in panic booking, adding that household LPG supply remains stable for now.
Transportation Disruptions Behind the Shortage
According to supply officials, the shortage has largely been caused by disruptions in the transportation network responsible for delivering LPG cylinders from bottling plants to distribution agencies.
Delays in truck movement and logistical constraints have slowed down the regular supply chain, affecting multiple districts simultaneously.
Authorities said efforts are underway to resolve the transportation issues and restore normal distribution as soon as possible.
Situation Being Closely Monitored
State authorities and LPG distribution agencies are reviewing the supply situation and coordinating with bottling plants to improve deliveries.
Officials expressed hope that once transportation stabilises, the refilling of commercial cylinders will resume gradually in the coming days.
Until then, businesses across Himachal Pradesh are adjusting their operations while awaiting restoration of normal LPG supply.
