SHIMLA, March 20: The Himachal Pradesh government has initiated the recruitment process for 870 Physical Education Teacher (PET) posts under the job trainee policy, offering a fixed monthly remuneration of ₹21,500.
Officials said the appointments will be made as job trainees, a model increasingly being used by the state government to fill vacancies while managing financial constraints. The move is expected to strengthen physical education infrastructure in government schools.
The education department has outlined that selected candidates will be deployed across various districts where vacancies exist, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
Candidates applying for these posts must meet the required educational qualifications and physical fitness standards as prescribed by the department. The recruitment process will follow a structured selection mechanism to ensure transparency.
Recruitment Model and Financial Strategy
The job trainee model allows the government to appoint candidates on a fixed stipend instead of full salary, helping manage the state’s fiscal burden while addressing staffing gaps.
Officials indicated that this approach has been used in multiple departments in recent years, especially in education and health sectors, where vacancies have been persistent.
Impact on Schools and Youth Employment
The recruitment is expected to improve sports education in government schools, where lack of trained physical education teachers has been a concern.
At the same time, the move is likely to generate employment opportunities for trained youth in the state, though some stakeholders have raised concerns over the long-term nature of job trainee positions.
The government has not yet specified a timeline for converting these positions into regular posts, but officials say the current focus is on immediate deployment.
