SHIMLA/MANALI – After a prolonged dry spell, winter has officially tightened its grip on Himachal Pradesh. On Saturday, high-altitude passes including Rohtang, Baralacha, Shinkula, and Kunzum received approximately half a foot of fresh snow.
Ground Report Light snowfall was also reported in the lower reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, including Keylong, Hansa, and Kukumseri. Consequently, the administration has restricted tourist movement towards the Shinkula Pass as a safety measure. In the state capital Shimla, clouds hovered throughout the day, denying tourists a sunny weekend but keeping hopes of snowfall alive.
Temperature Plunge The sudden change in weather has led to a sharp decline in day temperatures, dropping by nearly 8 degrees Celsius across the state. Tabo remained the coldest recording at -2.6°C.
Forecast Ahead The Meteorological Department has predicted light snow in higher reaches until January 21. A more intense weather system is expected to hit the state from January 22 to 26, bringing widespread rain and snow, which is crucial for the apple orchards and Rabi crops facing moisture stress.
