MINNEAPOLIS (United States): The fragile peace in Minneapolis shattered again on Saturday morning after a US Border Patrol agent shot a man in the city’s South side, reigniting anger over the federal government’s “surge” operation in Minnesota.
The Incident The shooting took place around 9:00 AM near Glam Doll Donuts on Nicollet Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing federal agents wrestling with a man before shots rang out. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) later stated the suspect was armed and a firearm was recovered, though local residents immediately gathered at the scene, screaming at agents to “go home.”
Governor Walz: “This is Sickening” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued a furious statement within hours of the shooting. “I just spoke with the White House. Minnesota has had it,” Walz wrote. “This is sickening. The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”
Context of Unrest This incident comes less than a month after Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent, a case that has already sparked daily protests. With today’s shooting, the rift between state officials and the federal administration has turned into an open political war.
