JAMMU — A massive manhunt is underway across the Jammu region after a brazen escape by three inmates, including two Pakistani nationals, from a juvenile observation home in the R.S. Pura sector on Monday evening.
The incident, which occurred around 5:15 PM, has triggered a high alert across the border districts. According to police officials, the inmates launched a sudden attack on the security personnel deployed at the facility. Using the element of surprise, they overpowered Head Constable Parveen Kumar and Special Police Officer (SPO) Vinay Kumar, leaving them injured, before managing to scale the perimeter and flee.
Who Escaped? The fugitives have been identified as Mohammad Sanaullah and Ahsan Anwar—both nationals of Pakistan—and a local youth named Karanjit Singh, alias Gugga, a resident of Dablehar in R.S. Pura.
The presence of Pakistani nationals in the facility suggests they were likely apprehended earlier for illegal border crossing or related offenses. Their escape from a facility located so close to the International Border (IB) has raised serious concerns among intelligence and security agencies.
Chaos and “Gunfire” Reports While the police have confirmed the physical assault, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the nature of the attack. Some local sources and unverified footage circulating on social media suggest that the inmates may have accessed a firearm and fired shots during the escape. However, official police statements have so far focused on the physical assault on the guards.
The injured personnel were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the Jammu Police have cordoned off the R.S. Pura area. Checkpoints have been erected on all major roads leading out of Jammu, and vehicles are being thoroughly searched.
“Special teams have been constituted to trace the absconding juveniles. We are looking into how the security lapse occurred,” a senior police officer stated. Given the proximity to the Pakistan border, the Border Security Force (BSF) has also been alerted to prevent any attempt by the duo to cross back into Pakistan.
