In a historic moment during IPL 2025, 24-year-old Priyansh Arya became the first Indian to score a century in his debut IPL season. The young batter smashed a hundred in just 12.5 overs against Chennai Super Kings, making it one of the fastest centuries by team overs in IPL history.
With this feat, Priyansh broke Virat Kohli’s 2016 record, who had scored a century in 13.3 overs against Punjab Kings. Priyansh now holds the record for the second-fastest century by an Indian in terms of team overs.
In terms of balls faced, Arya also stands among the top Indian players to achieve one of the fastest centuries in IPL. The fastest team-over-based century remains with Chris Gayle, who smashed one in just 8.5 overs in 2013.
So far, only 13 players globally have scored centuries in their debut IPL seasons, and Priyansh Arya is the first Indian to do so—adding a proud chapter to Indian cricket history.
