Ramdev has been a polarizing figure for years, frequently making headlines for controversial remarks and unverified claims.
In May 2021, he sparked national outrage by calling allopathy a “stupid science” and alleging that medicines like Remdesivir and Fabiflu were ineffective against COVID-19. The Indian Medical Association condemned his remarks, and then-Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan requested Ramdev to withdraw his statements.
Back in 2006, CPM leader Brinda Karat accused Ramdev of using animal and human bones in his medicines. Though Patanjali denied it, the controversy escalated quickly. Later, the Indian Army removed Patanjali’s Amla juice from its canteens after a failed quality test in a government lab.
In 2020, Ramdev introduced “Coronil,” claiming it cured COVID-19. The claim was later challenged, and India’s AYUSH ministry intervened, restricting its sale as a cure.
More recently, former ally Karmveer questioned the authenticity of Patanjali’s ghee, arguing its pricing didn’t align with genuine desi ghee production.
