Patanjali Ayurved, launched in 2006 by Baba Ramdev and his close associate Acharya Balkrishna, has emerged as one of India’s largest consumer goods companies. Starting with herbal and Ayurvedic remedies, the company now sells a wide range of products, including food items, personal care, and medicines.
By 2019, Patanjali was valued at ₹8,000 crore, and by 2022, it crossed the ₹10,000 crore milestone. Ramdev, who identifies himself as a “fakir working for the nation,” claims the profits from Patanjali are reinvested into India’s development and traditional education systems.
The company’s best-selling products are its Ayurvedic medicines, used for treating everything from fevers to skin diseases. Despite controversies, Patanjali has positioned itself as a “Swadeshi alternative” to multinational brands, riding on nationalism and wellness trends.
