Greater Noida, UP: A heinous act of violence has been reported from Greater Noida where a man killed a 27-year-old woman simply because she refused to marry him. The accused, Ankit Kumar, was arrested on Tuesday after a dramatic encounter with the Greater Noida Police. According to Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar, the suspect was spotted near the Dhakiya Wale Baba area on a stolen bike. When the police closed in, Kumar fired at the team, leading to a gunfight in which he was shot in the leg.
The victim, Deepa, had gone missing on Sunday. Her body was found the following morning in a gruesome state, hidden under a car parked near a public park in Sector Beta-2. Investigators believe Ankit Kumar killed her late Sunday night by strangulating her. In a desperate attempt to mislead the law, he dragged the body and shoved it under a car, hoping the authorities would view it as a tragic road accident.
Deepa’s brother had earlier alerted the police when his sister’s mobile went dead, sparking a search operation. The arrest has brought some closure to the family, though the brutality of the crime has left the local community in fear. Police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol and the victim’s phone from Kumar’s possession. He has been charged under various sections of the BNS, including murder and attempt to murder a police officer. This incident once again highlights the growing concerns over women’s safety and the violent consequences of unrequited obsession in the NCR region.
