NEW DELHI, APRIL 21 — In a groundbreaking achievement, Apple has released its 2025 Environmental Progress Report, revealing that over 30% of the materials used in its products are now recycled or renewable—a record high for the company. This milestone underscores Apple’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and sets a new benchmark for sustainability in the tech industry. The report also reaffirms Apple’s bold commitment to achieving full carbon neutrality across its entire supply chain and product lifecycle by 2030, reinforcing its role as a pioneer in sustainable innovation.
Titled *"Advancing a Greener Tomorrow: Apple's 2025 Environmental Journey,"* the report details the company’s advancements in material recovery, energy efficiency, and waste reduction. Among its most notable accomplishments is the complete transition to 100% recycled rare earth elements in iPhone magnets, the integration of 50% recycled aluminum in MacBook Air and iPad models, and the extraction of recycled gold from e-waste, now comprising 20% of the gold used in Apple products. The Apple Robotics Recovery System (ARRS) has been instrumental in processing this recycled gold. Additionally, Apple has nearly eliminated plastic packaging, with 99% of its products now housed in fiber-based materials, resulting in the removal of over 1 million metric tons of plastic since 2020.
Apple has made remarkable strides in reducing its carbon footprint, slashing absolute emissions by 22% since 2020—despite a 40% increase in production volume. The company has also met its goal of powering all global operations, including those of its manufacturing partners, with 100% renewable energy. "Our mission has always been to leave the planet healthier than we found it," says Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. "The 2025 data demonstrates that innovation and sustainability are inseparable. By accelerating our use of recycled materials and clean energy, we’re not just meeting our 2030 goals—we’re setting them ahead of schedule."

Apple's 2025 Environmental Milestone: 30% Recycled Materials in Products
The report highlights the expanded deployment of Apple’s advanced recycling robot, *Daisy*, now operational in facilities across Texas, the Netherlands, and India. *Daisy* can disassemble 29 different iPhone models at a rate of 1.2 million devices annually, recovering critical materials such as tungsten, cobalt, and rare earth metals. However, challenges remain, including the high energy demands of semiconductor production and the logistical hurdles of sourcing recycled materials on a global scale. Greenpeace Asia, a leading environmental advocacy group, acknowledges Apple’s progress but emphasizes the need for broader systemic change. "While Apple’s efforts are commendable, the tech industry must confront the root issue of overconsumption," the organization stated. "True sustainability demands transformative action, not just incremental progress."

Apple's Commitment to Sustainability: A New Benchmark for the Tech Industry
With increasing regulatory pressure, particularly under the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Apple has enhanced its transparency by providing detailed disclosures on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for the first time. Looking forward, the company has set ambitious new targets: increasing recycled content to 40% by 2027, eliminating all virgin plastic and packaging foam by 2028, and launching a line of products made entirely from recycled materials, beginning with the iPhone 18 series in the third quarter of 2026.
