Dubai, March 10 — India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the organisation’s Code of Conduct during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final. The disciplinary action was confirmed by the ICC following an incident that occurred during the high-profile match.
According to the ICC statement, Arshdeep was found to have violated Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The offence related to an inappropriate reaction during the match, which officials ruled to be contrary to the spirit of the game.
The ICC said the incident involved a visible gesture made after a key moment in the game. Such actions fall under conduct considered unacceptable on the field, even during high-pressure matches.
Disciplinary Action Taken
As a result of the breach, Arshdeep Singh received a monetary fine equivalent to a percentage of his match fee, along with the addition of one demerit point to his disciplinary record.
Match referee David Boon imposed the sanction after reviewing the incident. The ICC confirmed that the player accepted the penalty and admitted the offence, meaning no formal hearing was required.
Level 1 offences typically relate to minor breaches of the Code of Conduct, including gestures, excessive celebrations, or conduct deemed unsporting.
Context of the World Cup Final
The incident occurred during the T20 World Cup final, one of the most closely watched matches in international cricket. Finals often bring heightened pressure for players as teams compete for the global title.
Arshdeep Singh has been an important part of India’s bowling lineup in recent years, particularly in the T20 format. Known for his left-arm pace and ability to deliver in the final overs, he has played a key role in several major tournaments.
Despite the disciplinary issue, the ICC clarified that the offence was categorised as a minor breach and does not carry suspension unless a player accumulates multiple demerit points over a two-year period.
ICC’s Code of Conduct Framework
The ICC’s Code of Conduct is designed to maintain professionalism and sportsmanship in international cricket. Level 1 offences are considered the least serious, though repeated violations can lead to more severe penalties.
Cricket authorities regularly review on-field behaviour to ensure players adhere to the standards expected during international competitions.
With the tournament concluded, attention is likely to shift toward upcoming international fixtures and bilateral series as teams begin preparations for the next phase of the global cricket calendar.
