Shimla, March 12 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for strong winds, thunderstorms and hailstorm in several parts of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, warning of unstable weather conditions across the hill state.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, gusty winds and thunderstorms are likely to affect multiple districts, particularly in the mid-hill and lower hill regions. Authorities have advised residents and farmers to remain cautious as the weather system could trigger sudden changes in local conditions.
Warning for Several Districts
Weather officials said districts including Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Una, and Mandi may experience strong winds and isolated hailstorms during the day.
Gusty winds are expected to reach speeds capable of damaging standing crops, fruit orchards, temporary structures and power lines in vulnerable areas. Hailstorms could also affect agriculture, especially fruit crops in the early growth stage.
Officials noted that the yellow alert indicates a need for vigilance, though it does not represent an extreme weather emergency.

Himachal Pradesh is currently transitioning between winter and spring, a period when western disturbances often bring rain, hail and thunderstorms to the region.
Agricultural experts say such weather conditions can affect wheat crops, vegetable cultivation and apple orchards, particularly in districts where fruit trees are entering the early flowering stage.
Local administrations have advised farmers to take precautionary measures to protect crops and orchard infrastructure where possible.
