Fatehpur (Kangra), March 12 — A burglary was reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Fatehpur area after a family returned home from attending a wedding ceremony and discovered that their house had been broken into and valuables stolen, police officials said.
According to local residents, the family had left their house locked while attending a marriage function in the area. When they returned late at night, they noticed signs of forced entry and found that cupboards and storage spaces inside the house had been ransacked.
The incident triggered panic in the neighbourhood, with residents gathering outside the house after hearing about the theft. The family later confirmed that cash and gold jewellery kept in the house were missing, though the exact value of the stolen items is still being assessed.
Burglars break into locked house
Initial information suggests that unidentified persons entered the house after breaking the lock of the main door. Once inside, the burglars searched through rooms and cupboards before leaving with the valuables.
Police officials said the theft likely occurred while the house remained unoccupied during the wedding function. Such incidents are not uncommon during large social gatherings, when homes are often left unattended for several hours.
Officers from the local police station reached the spot soon after receiving information and inspected the premises. A preliminary investigation was launched and evidence from the site was collected.

Police begin probe
Authorities said efforts are underway to identify the suspects involved in the burglary. Investigators are also checking CCTV footage from nearby houses and roads to trace suspicious movements around the time of the incident.
Residents of the area have been asked to share any information that may help the investigation. Police officials indicated that patrols in residential areas may be increased during wedding and festival seasons to prevent similar incidents.
Concern among residents
The theft has raised concerns among villagers, many of whom say that houses are often left empty during weddings or social events. Local community members urged residents to take additional precautions such as informing neighbours and securing valuables before leaving homes unattended.
Police officials said further details regarding the stolen items and possible suspects will emerge once the investigation progresses.
