Bengaluru, March 15 — Police in Bengaluru have registered a case after a woman from Kerala alleged that she was harassed and verbally abused by a man who repeatedly demanded money from her at a hostel where she was staying.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred at a hostel in the Karnataka capital where the woman had been residing. She alleged that the accused confronted her and demanded money, and when she refused, he began abusing and harassing her.
The matter came to light after the woman approached the police and filed a formal complaint detailing the alleged harassment.
Allegations of harassment and threats
In her complaint, the woman stated that the man repeatedly pressured her to give him money. She said that when she declined, the situation escalated into verbal abuse and intimidation.
Police officials said the accused allegedly used abusive language and tried to intimidate the woman during the confrontation.
Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered based on the complaint and that the matter is currently under investigation.
Police begin investigation
Officers said they are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and gathering evidence related to the allegations. Statements from the complainant and other individuals who may have witnessed the incident are being recorded.
Police are also reviewing available surveillance footage from the hostel premises to verify the sequence of events.
Officials added that further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
Safety concerns for women in hostels
The case has once again raised concerns about the safety of women living in hostels and rented accommodation in large cities. Urban centres like Bengaluru host thousands of students and working professionals who rely on private hostels for accommodation.
Experts say hostel managements and local authorities must ensure proper security measures, including surveillance systems and clear grievance mechanisms for residents.
Legal action underway
Police said appropriate legal provisions have been invoked in the case and assured that the complaint will be investigated thoroughly.
Authorities have urged residents of hostels and paying guest accommodations to report any harassment or intimidation to law enforcement without delay.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as police continue to examine the case.
