SHIMLA, March 16: Fresh snowfall on higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, including Narkanda and nearby mountain peaks, brought back winter-like conditions in parts of Shimla district on Sunday, with temperatures dropping across hill regions.
Snowfall was reported on the upper mountains surrounding Narkanda and other elevated areas, while lower regions experienced cloudy weather and intermittent rain. The change in weather led to a noticeable drop in temperature across the district.

Tourist spots such as Narkanda, Kufri and nearby high-altitude areas witnessed fresh snow accumulation on surrounding hills, creating scenic winter views but also raising concerns about road safety in mountainous stretches.
Impact on Travel and Local Movement
Local authorities advised drivers to remain cautious while travelling on mountain roads, particularly in higher areas where snow accumulation and slippery surfaces can create hazardous driving conditions.
Although major highways remained open, some interior roads in high-altitude areas experienced slower traffic movement due to snowfall and reduced visibility.
Tourism operators said snowfall in nearby peaks often attracts visitors hoping to experience winter weather late in the season. However, officials warned tourists to follow safety advisories issued by the administration.

Weather Conditions Expected to Fluctuate
Meteorological officials indicated that changing weather patterns may continue over the coming days as western disturbances influence weather across the Himalayan region.
Residents in higher reaches were advised to stay updated with weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of snowfall or heavy rain.
Authorities and disaster management teams remain on alert to respond quickly if weather conditions worsen in mountainous areas.
